Auropia is the last major city on the continent Namerka believed to be the only still inhabited continent on Rath a decimated world. The scholars say the name is from the old words for ‘A Perfect System’ and ‘Gold’. The people of Auropia often refer to it as the City, but outsiders and immigrants call Auropia the Floating City or City on the Spires. While the exact population is unknown, it is believed to be in the tens of millions and is the last bastion of humanity after the Doomtimes.
To those that know such archaic details, Auropia was originally a system of huge base pillars to a series of six space elevators. The giant platforms used to haul goods up to a long forgotten spaceport form the bases of the six levels. Each platform has been added to over the years until all the pillars were connected to each other in giant sprawling levels. Long ago each level was connected to the others with a series of elevators, stairs, tubes and tunnels. Most people will never know all the hidden and forgotten passages in their own district, but even the Engineers don’t know all the ways the districts and levels are connected together. The lowest levels sits nearly half a mile or more above the surface of the planet.
The city of Auropia is broken up into six levels which are broken up into districts and some include the area beneath the city as a lesser part of the city. The six levels, listed uppermost to lowermost, are Sky City, Upper City, High Field, Low Field, Low City, and the Warrens. Each level has its own specialties, industry and even social classes, but in general the social castes are related to the level one lives on. The richest and most powerful people live in the top levels and the poorest people live in the Warrens.
