Cybernetics are strictly regulated in the City. It requires a special license or proof of military, governmental or security employment to openly display cybergear in Auropia. Limb replacement is common for soldiers and law enforcement, but is illegal even those injured in industrial or other accidents. The very rich and well connected can get around these restriction with licenses. A rich child who through birth defects or accidents might be cybernetically repaired and issued a special license. Illegal cybergear and chopshops are fairly common in the black markets and criminal world of Auropia, but punishment is severe for those caught with illegal cybernetics. Due to their illegal nature the people that can afford it buy only hidden modifications, but this is not always possible. Those that openly display cybernetic enhancements can expect fear among the populace due to the sensationalized stories in the media and fiction depicting cyber-psychotics rampaging. Having visible cybergear also limits one’s movement around the City since being caught at a checkpoint with cybergear can mean instant arrest.

Cyber modifications involving the brain are extremely rare. This means that nano-computers are nearly non-existent outside of the elite of the Engineers. Limb and organ replacement connect to nerves instead of being connected directly to the brain. This means that control is awkward and most things are limited to PL 6 technology. Some PL 7 techonology is available to Engineers and the rich, but due to the electronic interference common in Auropia Wireless NI Jacks are practically useless.
