The Civil Planners, Engineers, and Technical Experts
Engineers are the most technically knowledgeable people in all of Auropia. They are a strict class of Codex speaking, highly educated, and wealthy people usually of Ings origins. Most Engineers are born to Engineer parents, but occasionally incredibly intelligent or promising children are adopted into the Engineers. They call these adopted Engineers ‘Apprentices’ for life, despite them performing all the tasks assigned to a Journeyman in their field. Engineers all attend private Engineer schools from a very young age, but at the age of 10 they take an aptitude test that determines their specialization. These specializations include Robotics, Civil Planning, Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Energy, Research, Public Transport Engineering, etc. The Engineer then studies in a school specific to their field until they are 22 years old. Then they apprentice under a Journeyman or Master for a minimum of 5 more years, but most remain as Apprentices until they are older than 30. After this most Engineers earn the rank of Journeymen and can begin practicing in their field without the oversight of other Engineers.
Engineers work with technology and are tasked with maintaining, repairing, and upgrading every system in Auropia. Due to repair and technical service being their first task almost all Engineers utilize the Technical Science broad group. They gain a racial benefits of the Starmech Collective due to this familiarity with technology and their highly bookish, academic nature. These benefits can be found on page 63 of the Star*Drive campaign setting.
Engineers are seen as an elite group of technical experts and saviors of the city. All Engineers are citizens and have access to housing and travel in Sky City if they can afford it. Media has frequently portrayed them as saviors of the city who preserve the water supplies and repair power outages, but the media also blames them for anything that goes wrong in Auropia. Engineers are also know for having an aloof and sometimes intimidating nature. Acting Engineers gain a +3 bonus to Fame, Authority, & Wealth.
